What to prepare before requesting a construction quote
A clear brief leads to an accurate quote. These are the documents and decisions that help any contractor price your project properly.
By FESFAHM Editorial Team

An accurate quotation depends on the quality of information a contractor receives. Vague briefs lead to vague prices — and to surprises later. Preparing a few things in advance saves time for everyone.
1. Proof of land ownership and site information
Title documents, site location, approximate dimensions and any known ground conditions. If a topographic survey or soil study exists, include it.
2. Drawings — even preliminary ones
Architectural drawings, even at sketch stage, allow a contractor to estimate quantities. Structural drawings allow much more precise pricing.
3. Your budget range
Sharing an honest budget range is not a weakness in negotiation. It allows the contractor to propose the right specification instead of guessing.
4. Your timeline
When would you like to start, and is there a fixed completion date? Rainy-season timing can significantly affect earthworks and programme.
5. Specification expectations
Finishes, materials and equipment drive cost. A short list of expectations — even "standard", "mid-range" or "premium" — helps.
